Does Survey Taking Pay?

By Lauran Stevenin

Taking surveys for big companies is just one way to make money on the Internet for the person who is at home watching children or those out of traditional employment. This is an option that can provide a moderate amount of income. Some of the nation's largest companies update their marketing strategies by reviewing surveys. What if I tell you that you could make a lot of money just by sitting at your laptop for half an hour a day? This IS possible and can be done from the comfort of your own home. It doesn't make any difference if the unemployment rate in your area is 2% or even 22%. When you do things on the Internet, you remove the demographics of unemployment from the financial equation.

While people are searching for things to do from home, this has remained a little known source of income. You won't get rich taking surveys, but the rates range from $5 to $40 per survey depending on the company you're responding to. The companies offering the methods to get started on the Internet are many. You can use any search engine looking for "paid surveys" and get many results.

Two key strategies to making money in this industry are volume and organization. You will only find a large paycheck by taking a volume of surveys. No single company generally provides enough income for you to feel comfortable. Saying that, if you take just a few surveys and find a paycheck of less than $50, don't be discouraged. Remember the key is volume and organization. Organization can be as easy as a list of the surveys taken in a tablet, on a word processor or spreadsheet. If you want to invest the money into a program that was written specifically to help you keep track of the surveys you've taken and been paid for, there are many available. Just remember, it's not necessary to invest a fortune to make money taking surveys.

Using your personal email to receive offers for surveys will make your life very complicated. My recommendation would be to get a free email site from companies like gmail, hotmail or yahoo. These are easy to find by doing a search for "free emails". This is also a very good way to keep your business ventures separated from your personal life. Always remember to think like a merchant and not like a consumer. This mindset will help keep you working for profit instead of becoming easily disappointed. You can also use email systems like Microsoft's Outlook Express or Incredimail to keep your emails sorted on your own computer.

The most important part of starting your survey business is to prepare a survey profile. This helps the companies looking for survey takers determine that you are a person they want to hear from. Companies looking for survey takers are going to be selective in their choices. They don't just hand out the $30 or $40 surveys to just anyone. They want to be sure the person they select is in the demographic area they are looking for and can give them an opinion from the type of person they sell to. Be specific about your qualifications in your profile. Don't be the "jack of all trades and master of none".

If you want to make money taking surveys you may have to spend a little bit of money. Many of the survey sites require a paid membership. Like any business, you may have to spend some money to make some money. It's not that the investment is required, just that mostly the results (number of surveys you have access to) from belonging to a group are better than if you were to try to do this without the group.

This economy we're living in has challenged the masses. Layoffs and business closures have plagued many communities making it more and more difficult to make ends meet. While we are all looking for ways to earn an income, doing so at home has become more important. Working for yourself, from the comfort of your home is a way to reduce the costs of commuting, wear and tear on the wardrobe, fear of the unemployment rate in your community and even give people a chance to have their opinions heard. We all like one thing or another, but mainly only talk with our close friends about things we'd like to see changed in marketing and even on what large companies offer to the public.
