By Brent Briceton

A lot of people actually think they cannot get any taller. Lighten up because this is not entirely true. Several ways are available to help you get taller.

First, however, let's discuss how our bodies grow in the first place. Our bones play an essential role in this. Did you know that infants have many more bones than they do when they're adults?

This is basically due to the cartilage that develops to eventually become adult bones. Babies' skeletal form is mostly consists of cartilage. And as they grow, these little bones fuse together and harden to adult bones. And so, grown-ups have lesser bones as compared to infants.

In puberty, growth spurts are release by the cartilage plates. And all throughout adolescence, these grow spurts lengthen gradually. Thus, when you go past the puberty period, stretching exercises cannot do anything much to increase the length of the growth plates as what growing pills and supplements imply.

In extreme cases, some resort to bone lengthening surgery to grow taller. Unfortunately, this surgery is very risky in lots of ways. Not only is it difficult to even find a doctor that's qualified to do this, but the complications afterward can make life very difficult indeed.

The surgery is done by breaking up the bones to insert metal plates in between the gap. In time the bones will grow to its normal position, resulting to a taller person following the operation. However, do not delight too much on it for it may also cause life-threatening dilemmas such as paralysis, nerve damage and worst, death.

Meanwhile, alternative methods are always available if you need them. Just involve yourself in physical exercises and a healthy diet to keep your height.

Take care of your body while you are still young. Do not abused it through vices. Replenish your vitality by ingesting foods with high level of calcium, amino acids and protein. Otherwise, you will have a stunted growth.

Taking the body for granted is likely to end up with brittle bones and increases the chance to have osteoporosis, which will only cause your height to decrease further.
