It's notoriously difficult. Go to your local bookstore and pick up a beginner or intermediate book of crossword puzzles. Completing just one of these each day is all it takes to give your mind a daily workout it needs.

A fantastic way to give the brain a vigorous workout each day is to undertake the study of a foreign language. Like crossword puzzles, learning a new language can really help whip your brain into shape. Which language you choose is not important. You might consider however, choosing a language that you have some level of interest in. This will keep you from becoming bored. There are many free resources online that you can use for language study. There are also several language programs that you can purchase. Some of them may be a little expensive, but your intention is not simply to learn a language, but to exercise your brain.

Sudoku is another fantastic way to exercise your mind and improve the memory power of your brain. If you have played sudoku before, then you already know how addictive it is. After completing a couple sudoku puzzles, you will not be able to put the book down. No one will have to force you to do your daily brain exercises. Those sudoku book on your living room coffee table will be calling out to you every day. You will not be able to put it down.

Now that you get the idea of what it takes to improve your memory and keep your brain in shape then you can start looking around for other kinds of puzzles that interest you. Another good one is jigsaw puzzles. And, there are dozens and dozens of other puzzles debt will be just as effective. Go to the bookstore and skim through a puzzle book. Since any puzzle will do, all you need to do is pick one you like.
