An Introduction To Funeral Services

By Cristina Mahoney

A loved one's death death is a harrowing experience, making the funeral preparations a painful experience. However, you have to face the loss that you have suffered and be prepared for making the appropriate funeral service arrangements to remember the departed. Most funeral homes give their services related to making preparations for the funeral and they can provide you adequate aid, but you must remember a few things as well.

A funeral should express how the dead person lived his life and it must be conducted in a suitable manner. There is a standard pattern which almost all funeral services adhere to, and any change would generally depend on specific religious and cultural preferences of the deceased and his or her family members.

The first stage of a funeral service can extend from a couple of hours to several days and it is known as visitation. Here, the dead person is remembered by his family and acquaintances. Then come the formal funeral services, which can be held in a chapel, a mortuary, a church or any other place that can act as a proper memorial for the deceased person. You will also need to book a funeral car or hearse to carry the body, if the funeral is to take place at an outdoor spot.

At the end of this service, the family and friends go to participate in the graveyard service at the selected cemetery. This can be managed by a clergyman or any near relative of the deceased, based on the family's preference. You also need to take care of several other aspects like the type of flowers you would require for the service, if you want to exhibit an image of the dead person and who will be the person leading the service.

The burial is the last stage of the service, and its location depends on the family tradition or personal liking of the departed. The deceased can be buried in family plots or in mausoleums, or be cremated after which their ashes can be spread where they had intended.
