Reinventing Yourself Means Updating Your Appearance
Have you ever heard someone say, "Yikes, you haven't changed at all", this may not be a good thing. If you still look at that small tenth grader, have the same haircut, and do your makeup in the same way, you might want to think about whether this is a good or a bad thing.
You do not want to perceived appearance like a timid tenth grade high school student when you are a thirty-year-old professional. If you want the respect of your peers and you want to be the part, then you have to reinvent yourself. On the other hand, what all does this involve?
This is not to say that you should go out, spend ten thousand dollars on plastic surgery and then appear on a speak show to show off your new perceived appearance to the boy in high school that turned you down. Of course, it is your right to do that if you please but it is not necessary in order to reinvent yourself.
Start with your hair and makeup. Is your hairstyle stuck in the 80's? If so, it is time for a hair intervention. Search out a well-qualified hair stylist and talk over some ideas. For just fifty to a hundred dollars and an hour in a beauty shop chair, you could have a whole new look. You might not think that a new hairstyle could drastically alter a person's appearance so much, but it really can. Who knows, maybe your co-workers will not even recognize you on Monday.
The next move is to update your wardrobe. You do not want to continue wearing the same exact articles of clothing to work year after year. You also want to make sure that you have a distinct fall, winter, spring and summer wardrobe. By mixing things up throughout the year, you will not only appear better but you will feel better as well. You will notice that people will begin to treat your in different methods and techniques.
Even though it does not seem fair, people do judge you on your outward appearance. It is not that they are superficial, they just cannot help it. A person's appearance, such as their clothes and their hair, is the first thing people notice. If you want to give off the vibe that you are a powerful, updated, classy, and intelligent businessperson that you are, then you need to update your look and act the part.
People will suddenly have a new outlook on you. They will approach you differently, talk to you differently, and respect you in a completely new way. However, do not stop here. Just because you reinvent yourself now does not mean that you never have to do it again.
You want to continue to reinvent yourself from time to time. Just as people get tired at looking at the same colored walls day in and day out for ten years, they will get tired of the same look on you as well. Shake things up and reinvent yourself not only for their benefit, but for your benefit as well.
