Tantric Music And Goddesses
Tantra and polarity
Tantra teaches us that the universe has a masculine principle called Shiva (yang) and a feminine principle Shakti (yin).
Shiva exists beyond the material. Shiva is essence and spirit and represents the transcendent: ideas, concepts, consciousness etc. Shakti is the material itself, she is the universe, our moods, emotions, life itself.
Shiva without Shakti is but a corpse, concepts with no "body", no "life". Shakti without Shiva is chaos and destruction. It is the universe with no master plan and no essence to keep it together.
Shiva and Shakti dance together in a complex and beautiful dance which creates the universe, keeps it together and destroys it.
This dance exists on all levels of cosmos. For example on the cosmic scale, huge galaxies (Shakti) revolve around points in space, black holes (Shiva), singularities in space time.
Their dance is also visible in the couple relationship where the man has more of Shiva in him and the woman has more of Shakti in her. Even within ourselves this dance takes place between our consciousness and our physical bodies.
More poetically put, Shiva represents consciousness, while Shakti is the energy. Shakti gets to know herself by mirroring herself in Shiva.
The Theory Of Resonance
Resonance is a fundamental law of the universe. The universe is pulsating energy (Shakti) covering an infinite scope of vibration.
Energy pulsating in one frequency will naturally tend towards other energy pulsating with the same frequency. This is a fundamental teaching of the theory of Resonance.
Resonance also states that a system vibrating with a certain frequency will transfer data from another system vibrating with the same frequency.
Just to make an example: If you are a happy person you will transfer data from all the other people in the world who have transmitted happiness energies. All energies which have been emitted exist out there in the universe and make up a network of the "happy energies". This is a network you automatically join and start transferring from when you are happy!
Music, colors, landscapes etc can have a common resonance even though they are different mediums for that resonance. A landscape can be sad, music can have a sad tone, a color may be sad etc. If we want to become happy we should listen to music that is happy.
If you listen to heavy metal for example you will join the network of all the people who listened to heavy metal and transferred their emotions into that network. You should be careful which resonances you associate with as you are transferring all the data into your being as the people that have associated with that resonance. In this case you might wind up becoming very angry and disharmonious.
Some say that you have to expose yourself to negative energies to become stronger. This may be true but only if you have the consciousness (Shiva) to go through it with awareness. Otherwise you will be overwhelmed and it will do you no good.
Rather focus on that which is good and divine and transfer and download those energies instead!
The Tantric World
Tantrics actively study Shakti in her myriad ways to thereby understand the mind of Shiva. In these studies of Shakti the universe has been categorized into Gods and Goddesses, each representing a unique range of frequencies/aspects.
For example, the energy of beauty encompass certain frequencies. We in the west would not need to have these energies represented by a Goddess. We would just call it beauty.
But deifying an energy has an important function: It enables us to identify easier with the energy as it gains a human face. It is easier to digest and to take in.
Through identifying with an object you can reach a full understanding of it as you "put yourself in its shoes".
Each Goddess has a bija mantra associated with it which has the core vibration of that range of energies associated with the Goddess.
The mantra is repeated fervently by the one worshipping the Goddess.
Tantra means "Net" or "Network" because Tantra sees the universe as a huge network of resonances between common frequencies and offers the worshipper an opportunity to log on to these networks through Goddesses and their Mantras.
In this way we can identify with any aspect of the universe through mantras and resonance.
Tantric music
Music is one of the most powerful ways to enter into resonance with an energy. There is nothing as powerful as music at opening up an emotion within us. Music can transport us instantly into new worlds and ideas. Music can be soft, humble, powerful, dynamic etc.
A composer who makes a piece of music under the influence of a certain resonance will convey this resonance to the listener in a very powerful and direct way.
It is in the artists interest to choose which energy he wants his audience to feel, because it enables him to consciously "soak" himself in that energy while creating his artwork and to transmit it to his audience through resonance.
The inspired artist submerges himself into the Bija of an uplifted energy, impregnates his art with it and thereby transmits this to the audience. In this way the artist is like a priest who conveys the divine to those who are able to receive.
